Give Your Immune System a Boost with a Delicious Curry

Have you ever tried cooking a curry?

Well, if the answer is yes, you might be pleased to learn that you’re on your way to naturally boosting your immune system.

Through reading this blog, we can reveal some of the reasons why

Yummy recipes rich in turmeric

I promised you a post with a simple recipe to allow you to recreate a wonderfully satisfying curry, in the comfort of your own kitchen.

I also promised that you would find you can make this recipe with simple ingredients that you would definitely find as a staple in and Indian household. These are the items we may recommend you begin to stock for a wonderful array of dishes that can be created using them. Of course we will help to inspire you with that.

These ingredients are used traditionally and feature in almost every recipe within Indian cooking. The beauty is, once you buy them once, they go a long way and have some amazing potential.

An Indian households staple spice

We want to provide you some insights relating to these staple ingredients, that have been documented well and may support our immune systems and may help to promote overall better health.

We will be taking one ingredient at a time and hero’ing them in a variety of recipes, so you can become confident with how to use it well. So this week’s choice is Turmeric (I’m sure you guessed it already).

There are many other ingredients within this recipe, however this particular spice has been considered a superfood, and we simply love it. Our family use it in a remedial way, since it goes back to home remedies from India in our mother and fathers generation (more stories to be shared here).

So like us, why not add a little turmeric spice to your life to provide a natural immune boost??

The beauty behind the ingredient

Turmeric is certainly an essential and provides versatility and colour to each dish. Just one thing, before we start, please handle with care. It’s a tough colour to wash out of clothes, so please don’t wear your favourite top when cooking with it. It has been known to taint many of our clothes and very disappointingly at that! Be warned :))

Cooking with Turmeric

In times like these, we can all do with giving our bodies the best fighting chance, so you can imagine the reasons why I will always recommend a great curry, at the best of times.

The core of this curry is based upon a very well cooked and enriched paste, with spices that not only are rich in aroma, but also in flavour and health promoting properties.

Introduction to Turmeric

Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) is a spice and major source of curcumin. Curcuma longa is a medical herb that has been traditionally used in Asian countries due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antimicrobial and anticancer properties (Hewlings and Kalman, 2017).

Curcumin is an orange -yellow component of turmeric, a spice often found in curry powder, with reported health benefits from its ability to modulate the immune system (Jagetia, 2007).

We will host a series of blogs so you can appreciate more about the beauty behind Turmeric, quite literally.

And now for that recipe I promised…

The best thing about it is that you can substitute the veg portions I have included for others you have handy at home right now.

Next time we’ll share how to make a traditionally Punjabi Turka Dahl.
